Italian Focaccia Bread
Italian Focaccia Bread is an Italian bread that dates back to the 14th century. It is now found in all the different provinces of Italy in many different variations. This is the way that we have it at our home.
For your Italian Focaccia Bread you could make some bread dough and here is our recipe for bread dough. Or, just get some bread dough or pizza dough at the super market. No,,I won’t be hurt and I won’t tell.
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups bread dough – (appx)
- 3-4 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tbsp. fresh rosemary or 2 large pinches of dried
- 2 tbsp. thinly sliced or chopped onions
- 2 tbsp. finely chopped garlic
Here is how to easily make your Italian Focaccia Bread
I used an 8″ cake pan for the loaf that you see in the pictures.
Spread the dough in the pan of your choice in about a half inch to a 3/4 inch thickness. You could use a round cake pan or a loaf pan or any kind of pan you want. The Focaccia Bread won’t care.
Let the dough rise in a warm spot. About halfway through the rising stage set the oven at 400. And when the dough has about doubled in size ( about 45 minutes to an hour) poke lots of holes down into the dough with your fingers. Drizzle some good extra virgin olive oil all over the dough. Enough so all the holes have some in them. Then add whatever else you want. Thinly sliced onion and rosemary are done often. Thin sliced garlic and on and on. Whatever you use just be sure to get some of it down into the holes. Today we are going with some rosemary, thin slices of onion and some chopped garlic.
Bake it until it is as dark and as firm as you want it. Fifteen to twenty minutes usually, depending on the thickness and how YOU want it.
