What You Will Need for your Calamari Fra Diavolo

These amounts are for 2 servings. You can change the number of servings on the recipe card below this post. That will automatically change the amounts of all of the ingredients

  • 3 cups frozen Calamari (aka squid) rings
  • 2 tablespoons lemon Juice
  • olive oil
  • 1/3 of a one pound box of pasta – We used penne tonight but any pasta will work.
  • 1 rounded tablespoon chopped garlic
  • 3 cups marinara sauce – half for the calamari and half for the pasta. If you don’t make your own just get some in the grocery store. I recommend biutoni or in a pinch just chop up some fresh tomatoes. That works good and some people prefer it that way
  • 1 level tablespoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp.salt
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or 1-1/2 tablespoons dried

How to Cook Up Your Calamari Fra Diavolo

Put the Calamari rings and the lemon juice in a bowl. Put a pot of water on for the pasta.

Raw Calamari

Let the calamari thaw little as you chop up the garlic. Set a skillet on the stove at medium and eyeball just enough olive oil to coat the bottom. Add the Calamari, lemon juice and garlic to the skillet. Add the pasta and a little salt to its pot and stir it. Stir the pasta a few more times as it cooks.

When the garlic just starts to get translucent and the Calamari Rings are starting to get opaque put all of the rest of the ingredients in the skillet.

Stir everything together. After the liquids start simmering stir a few times as everything cooks and the flavors are mixing together. When the Calamari has gotten firm (about five minutes) everything else will also be ready.
