Baked Tuna Steak Dinner
We posted this recipe 4 years ago and it was our most clicked posting out of all of our 400 plus posted recipes. So, we thought that we should tune it up a little and post it again.
You want to put together a real good, real nice, weeknight meal, but, you’re in a hurry. And, you don’t want a lot of cleanup. This Baked Tuna Steak Dinner can happen at your house with just two pans in the oven. Each lined with aluminum foil so there are no pots or pans to scrub. Or just use disposable aluminum pans.
If you are located where you can get fresh tuna then get steaks about one inch thick and at about six ounces. If you can’t get fresh then your super market will have frozen at just about that size. We get frozen and put them in the fridge to thaw for a day before we use them. You can defrost them in the microwave if you like just check them often. Or, if your steaks are individually sealed they will defrost in a bowl of water in about 8-10 minutes.

These amounts are for 2 servings. If you want different servings amounts scroll down to the recipe card that is below this posting. There you can change the number of servings and it will change all of the amounts of all the ingredients. Also you can switch the amounts to metric.
- 2 appx. 6 ounce tuna steaks appx. 1″ thick
- 1 fresh lemon
- 6 tbsp.extra virgin olive oil devided
- 1 tsp. salt devided
- 1/2 tsp black pepper divided
- 1 tsp. dried dill weed
- 12 large stalks fresh asparagus
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1/2 medium sized onion cut into strips
Baked Tuna Steak
Set the oven at 400°F. Put the steaks in a bowl that is big enough to handle tossing and turning the steaks.
Now zest and squeeze a lemon into the bowl. Then add the salt, pepper, dill weed and olive oil.
Gently turn the steaks over a few times to mix up all the ingredients and evenly coat the steaks. When that’s done to your satisfaction line a baking pan, that is just big enough to handle your steaks, with aluminum foil. Use enough foil to stick up higher than the sides of the pan to save yourself some cleanup. Put the steaks and all of the other ingredients from the bowl into the pan. Use a tablespoon to get the top of the steaks covered with all that good stuff.
Put that pan aside while you get the asparagus ready. Take a sheetpan, that is just big enough to get all of the stalks laid out. Line it with aluminum foil. Again, use enough foil so that it sticks up past the sides of the pan. Cut the ugly stumps off and lay the stalks out in the pan. Cut the onion into strips and add it to the asparagus. Add the olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder and the grated parmesan and roll the stalks around getting them covered with the added ingredients.
NOW
Put the pans in the oven and after about 6 or 8 minutes check on them. The narrower the asparagus stalks are the quicker they will cook. The steaks will get cooked medium well in 10-12 minutes. Poke the asparagus with a fork and the steaks with your finger. The softer the asparagus the more done it is. The firmer the tuna the more done it is. If you are unsure about the tuna just gently and slightly split a steak with the fork to see if it is how YOU like it. Some folks like it raw in the middle and some like it with no pink whatsoever.
Enjoy your Baked Tuna Steak Dinner.
