Steaks with Red Wine Sauce

Steaks with Red Wine Sauce

This Steaks with Red Wine Sauce recipe is a VERY tasty and a VERY easy way to serve up steaks in a different way from the usual. And yes it’s still easy to do. The only extra is making the red wine sauce after the steaks are cooked. Which is  an easy no brainer. Tonight we had sauteed onion strips in with the red wine sauce. Wow, it was good.

Ingredients

These amounts are for 2 servings

  • Two beef steaks –  whatever size and cut of beef that you like – we almost always go with New York Strip Steaks
  • Salt and pepper
  • 3 tablespoons Butter
  • 1/2 medium size onion cut into thin strips
  • 1 cup red wine – we always have some chianti handy – Like Groucho Marx said “I always cook with wine. Sometimes I even put some in the food.”

This is how to easily throw together your Steaks with Red Wine Sauce

Put a skillet on the stove at medium high and when you trim the fat off the steaks eyeball a tablespoon size of fat and put it in the skillet. Then skid it around getting the bottom of skillet coated with the melting fat. Salt and pepper both sides of the steaks and put them in the skillet. Gammy likes hers medium well and I like mine medium rare so to not complicate the cooking time we slice hers in half length wise. That way they will all cook for the same amount of time and we each get the results that we want.

While the steak is cooking slice up the onion into thin strips. When the steaks are done move them to a platter that will catch the drippings. Add the butter, red wine and onion strips to the skillet.

Stir them a few times as the wine reduces and the onion strips cook. When they have softened up to the way that you want them to be put the steaks back into the skillet and turn them over a couple of times getting them covered with the red wine sauce. Put the steaks on the plates and spoon the red wine sauce and onion strips on them.

Then serve up and enjoy your Steaks with Red Wine Sauce.  And some of Poppop’s No Knead Bread
